Woman Arrested in Malone for Assault and Resisting Arrest

Domestic Dispute in Malone Leads to Arrest for Assault and Resisting

A late-night altercation in the town of Malone turned violent on Sunday, June 8, 2025, resulting in the arrest of a 55-year-old woman on assault charges.

What Happened

Just before 10 p.m., New York State Police were called to a home along State Route 30 in Malone after a report of a domestic dispute. When Troopers arrived, they found that a verbal argument had escalated into a physical incident between Traci L. Thomas and another individual.

According to police, Thomas began throwing objects off a coffee table before eventually flipping the table onto the other person. The table reportedly struck the victim in the face, causing a deep cut on the nose.

Medical Help Arrives

Emergency responders from Monroe EMS arrived shortly after the incident. They assessed the victim at the scene and then transported them to Alice Hyde Medical Center for treatment.

Refusal to Cooperate Leads to Resisting Arrest Charge

While attempting to arrest Thomas, Troopers say she refused to follow verbal commands. Despite her resistance, officers were able to safely detain and transport her to the Malone State Police station for processing.

Thomas was charged with Assault in the Third Degree and Resisting Arrest, both misdemeanors under New York law. She was later released with an appearance ticket and is expected to appear in Town of Malone Court later in June.

A Broader Look: Domestic Violence and Law Enforcement Response

Incidents like this are unfortunately not uncommon in rural areas. In 2023, New York State reported over 17,000 domestic violence-related arrests, with more than 6,000 in upstate counties alone, according to the state Division of Criminal Justice Services.

Assault in the third degree is one of the more frequently charged offenses in domestic cases. It’s considered a Class A misdemeanor and can carry penalties of up to one year in jail, probation, or mandated counseling.

Law enforcement agencies across the state, including the Malone barracks, often partner with local advocacy organizations to help support victims after such incidents. Alice Hyde Medical Center and several local nonprofits in Franklin County also offer counseling and legal referral services for those impacted by domestic abuse.
