Fatal Tree Removal Accident in Somers Under Investigation

A tragic accident occurred on June 23, 2025, at approximately 4:03 p.m., when members of the New York State Police in Somers and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) responded to an emergency call at a private residence in the Town of Somers.
According to authorities, a landscaping service had been contracted by the homeowner to perform tree work on the property. During the removal process, a crew member, identified as Jonathan Chavez Jaramillo, 31, of Ossining, NY, was struck by a falling tree limb.
Emergency personnel from the Somers Fire Department arrived promptly and immediately initiated life-saving measures. Mr. Chavez Jaramillo was transported to a local medical facility, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The New York State Police and BCI are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. The name of the victim was released following notification of next of kin.
