Relay for Life at Delta Lake State Park to Raise Funds for Cancer Research on June 14, 2025

Community Rallies for Annual Relay for Life at Delta Lake State Park

ROME, N.Y. – The Central New York community is gearing up for a day of hope, remembrance, and fundraising at the annual American Cancer Society Relay for Life. The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 14, 2025, from noon to 10 p.m. at the scenic Delta Lake State Park. This year’s theme, “Red, White & Blue And Relay, too!”, sets a patriotic and unified tone for the day’s activities.

The Relay for Life is a powerful and inspiring event that brings together cancer survivors, caregivers, families, and supporters to celebrate life and fight back against cancer. The day will be filled with a variety of activities designed to engage the entire community and raise crucial funds for cancer research and patient support services.

The event will commence at noon with the deeply moving Survivor and Caregiver Lap, a tribute to the strength and resilience of those who have faced a cancer diagnosis and those who have supported them. Following the opening lap, a special reception will be held to honor these individuals. Survivors are encouraged to pre-register to receive a complimentary survivor T-shirt.

Throughout the day, participants can enjoy a host of family-friendly activities, including live music from local performers and DJs, and various games. A diverse selection of local food trucks will be on-site to cater to all tastes.

In a special tribute to service members, a Veteran Honor Lap is scheduled for 5 p.m. All veterans are invited to participate in this lap, regardless of team affiliation.

A significant highlight of the event is the Luminaria Ceremony at 8:30 p.m. As dusk falls, the track will be illuminated with personalized luminaria bags, each dedicated to a loved one lost to cancer, a survivor, or someone still in their cancer journey. This poignant ceremony offers a time for reflection and remembrance.

This year’s Relay for Life has seen a remarkable surge in local involvement, with numerous community groups and healthcare providers, including the Upstate Cancer Center, joining forces. The Upstate Cancer Center will have its mobile mammography van at the event, offering informational tours. Another unique feature will be the “Colossal Colon,” an interactive, walk-through exhibit designed to educate the public about colorectal cancer.

Last year, the Central New York Relay for Life raised over $210,000, and with more than 63 teams already signed up for this year’s event, organizers are optimistic about surpassing that goal.

All members of the community are invited to attend this free event to support the cause, honor loved ones, and enjoy a day of community spirit.
