Pedestrian Fatally Struck on Main Street in York, NY

63-Year-Old Woman Killed in Livingston County Collision; Investigation Ongoing

YORK, NY — A tragic accident on the evening of July 15 has left a community in mourning after a pedestrian was fatally struck by a car in the town of York, located in Livingston County.

According to the New York State Police at SP Geneseo, the incident occurred around 7:40 p.m. on Main Street. A preliminary investigation revealed that a 63-year-old woman was crossing the road when she was hit by a 2014 Ford Fiesta traveling northbound.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical services. Her name has not yet been released, pending notification of family.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as 52-year-old Bryan D. Royston of Hilton, NY, remained at the scene and immediately called 911. Troopers say Royston showed no signs of impairment. He was evaluated by EMS and declined further medical treatment.

Troopers, along with the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) and the Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU), are continuing their investigation. As of now, no charges have been filed.

Officials urge drivers and pedestrians to remain alert at all times, especially during evening hours when visibility begins to decline. This area of Main Street does not appear to have traffic lights or marked crosswalks at the specific location of the crash, which may factor into the ongoing review.

State Police have not yet indicated whether weather, speed, or lighting conditions played a role in the fatal collision.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is encouraged to contact the New York State Police at (585) 243-4900.
