MVCC Wins Multiple NJCAA Region III Yearly Awards for 2024-25 Season

Closing out a spectacular athletic season, Mohawk Valley Community College earned several National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region III Yearly Awards for 2024-25, including Male Student-Athlete of the Year, Athletic Director of the Year, and Athletic Trainer of the Year.

Student-athlete Andre Pasha of Syracuse, N.Y., was named Region III Male Athlete of the Year. As a freshman center on the Men’s Basketball Team, Pasha helped lead the Hawks to their third Regional Championship and their first-ever NJCAA Men’s Basketball National Championship during a historic season in which the team finished with a 29-1 record. This season, he averaged a double-double as the team’s second-leading scorer at 14.2 points per game and leading rebounder at 10.9 rebounds per game, ranking fourth in Region III. He also led the team in field goal percentage (56%), placing him among the Region’s Top 10.

Pasha was recognized at both the national and regional levels this year. His accolades include being named an NJCAA First Team All-American and First Team All-Region, Mountain Valley Conference Player of the Year and First Team All-Conference, and a member of the NJCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Championship All-Tournament Team.

“Andre played an instrumental role in MVCC winning our first-ever Men’s Basketball Championship,” said Dominic DiMaggio, Director of Athletics. “His attitude and ability are second to none.”

Dominic DiMaggio, Director of MVCC Athletics and Head Coach of the Men’s Soccer Team, was named Region III Athletic Director of the Year. DiMaggio joined MVCC in 2017 as Head Coach of the Men’s Soccer Program and was appointed Director of Athletics in 2021.

“Dom’s leadership blends old-school integrity, work ethic, and instincts with a growth mindset and student-first, innovative approach to everything he does,” said MVCC President Dr. Randall VanWagoner. “This amplifies his impact on coaches, players, and colleagues.”

In 2024-25, DiMaggio took on multiple leadership roles within Region III and at the national level. He and his staff hosted the Region III Women’s Tennis Championships and the 2025 NJCAA Division III Track & Field National Championships. Nationally, he served as Treasurer of the National Alliance of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators and was elected Third Vice President. He also served on the NJCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Committee and volunteered to take on the role of Business Manager to fill an unplanned vacancy.

Under his guidance, MVCC captured NJCAA National Championships in both Men’s Soccer and Men’s Basketball this year — a feat unmatched in the NJCAA since 1961. The Women’s Soccer Team finished as National Runner-Up, Women’s Tennis earned fourth place at Nationals, and Women’s Cross Country won the Region III Championship.

“Dom and his programs had an unprecedented year in the Region, capturing two national championships, earning a national runner-up finish, and achieving strong national showings across several other sports,” said Region III Executive Committee member Justin Hoyt. “He continues to elevate Mohawk Valley’s athletics, firmly establishing them as one of the premier NJCAA Division III programs in the country.”

For the second consecutive year, MVCC Head Athletic Trainer and Professor Jennifer Krohn was named Region III Athletic Trainer of the Year — the first individual to receive this honor in back-to-back years. Krohn, who began her MVCC career in 2001, also serves as academic advisor for students in the Liberal Arts & Sciences: Mathematics & Science AS degree program with a concentration in Sports Medicine, which she helped create in 2002. Additionally, she is the Training Center Coordinator for MVCC’s American Heart Association CPR program.

“While her 25 years of experience at MVCC provides Jen with the wisdom to be incredibly effective as athletic trainer to our 17 teams, her commitment to her students and the College is what sets her apart,” said President VanWagoner. “She uses every opportunity to mentor and support our student-athletes and help Hawk Athletics thrive each and every year.”

Men’s Soccer player Alejandro Limardo expressed gratitude for Krohn’s support during his first year as a Hawk. “Her passion, dedication, and belief in us played a huge part in making history this year. It truly meant a lot, both on and off the field.”
