MVCC School of Art announces fall exhibits, workshops
This fall, Mohawk Valley Community College will host a series of art exhibits and workshops showcasing various art forms.
Art Workshops
All hands-on workshops will be led by School of Art faculty at MVCC’s Utica Campus. All materials will be provided, and no experience is necessary.
- Painting with Light — 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, 2025; Academic Building room 274. Join Instructor Ron Jones to learn about the photo studio, camera operation, and specifically painting with light — the art of creating photos by setting long exposure times on a camera and using a moving light source to “paint.” Tickets are $10 general, $5 for MVCC employees, and free for MVCC students.
- Spooky Camera Obscura — 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, 2025; Academic Building room 273. Join Todd Behrendt, Dean of MVCC’s School of Art, for a spooky rendition of his Camera Obscura Workshop. Participants should bring a fun mask to use for camera obscura portraits. Tickets are $10 general, $5 for MVCC employees, and free for MVCC students.
- Portrait Painting Introduction — 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2025; Academic Building room 112. Join MVCC Art Professor Jed Kimball for an introduction to painting portraits. Tickets are $10 general, $5 for MVCC employees, and free for MVCC students.
Art Exhibits
- 2025 School of Art Faculty Show — Opening with a reception at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, this exhibit provides a look into the creative work of faculty in MVCC’s School of Art. The show will be on display in the Juergensen Gallery in Wilcox Hall through Oct. 17, 2025.
- “Ties That Bind” by Chad Smith — Opening with a reception at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, 2025, this exhibit features series of paintings by MVCC Adjunct Instructor Chad Smith focusing on heartfelt subjects that surround the artist and inspire hope. “Ties That Bind” will be on display in the Juergensen Gallery in Wilcox Hall through Dec. 12, 2025.
