The annual Mohawk Valley Gives campaign officially launched Monday evening with the 4th Annual Tap Into STEAM fundraiser at Copper City Brewing Company in Rome. This signature event, reported by WKTV, brought together community members, local businesses, and STEAM enthusiasts for an evening of philanthropy and learning.
Supporting Local STEAM Education
Presented by the Project Fibonacci Foundation and sponsored by the New York State Technology Enterprise Corporation, the event raised funds for eight area nonprofits focused on STEAM education. These organizations include Project Fibonacci Foundation, Inc., Mohawk Valley Chapter Barbershop Harmony Society, Mohawk Valley Bluegrass Association, Rome Art and Community Center, On Point for College, Whitney’s Legacy, Capitol Theatre, and SUNY Polytechnic Foundation.
“We’re trying to redefine how we provide educational leadership, for new jobs, new entrepreneurial opportunities, and just trying to revitalize the Mohawk Valley,” explained Dr. Andrew Drozd, Project Fibonacci Foundation Chairman.
Addressing Regional Workforce Needs
The initiative addresses a critical regional challenge: there are currently more STEAM-based jobs than STEAM-educated employees in the workforce. Dr. Drozd hopes that by providing proper education and support, these programs will help fill the employment void while encouraging young people to continue living and working in the Mohawk Valley.
According to Mohawk Valley Today, over 80 new nonprofits have joined this year’s Mohawk Valley Gives campaign, demonstrating the growing community commitment to regional development and support.
Community Impact and Future Goals
Attendees enjoyed complimentary food, live entertainment, and both silent and live auctions while supporting these vital community organizations. The event featured limited-edition Copper City Brewing Company–Project Fibonacci pint glasses as commemorative items.
The broader Mohawk Valley Gives campaign continues to grow, with organizations like Cornell Cooperative Extension Herkimer County participating to strengthen food security and community health initiatives throughout the region.
