Scalzo Appointed as County Attorney
Cortese-Kolasz Resigns
Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr. announced today that County Attorney Amanda Cortese-Kolasz has resigned and that he has appointed Maryangela Scalzo to the position.

“Amanda Cortese-Kolasz is an excellent attorney who has served my administration well for many years,” Picente said. “She made a professional error, took responsibility for it and I have accepted her resignation as County Attorney. She will continue to serve this government in a different capacity.”
Scalzo has assumed the role of County Attorney effective immediately.
She has two decades of experience in public service law, having most recently served as Deputy County Attorney for Health and Human services in the County Attorney’s Office. Scalzo has held key roles including Chief Family and Community Services Attorney and Assistant County Attorney. She has provided legal leadership across multiple departments and has served as primary counsel on critical health and human services matters. She has been the County’s HIPAA Compliance Officer and represented the County in court and administrative proceedings.

“Maryangela has been an indispensable part of Oneida County Government for the past 20 years,” Picente said. “Her experience, expertise and leadership have been instrumental to our success and I am pleased to place the County Attorney’s Office in her capable hands.”
Scalzo is a graduate of Siena College and Western New England School of Law.

Cortese-Kolasz resigned from the position on July 15, 2025. She was appointed County Attorney on Jan. 17, 2024. She had been employed with Oneida County since 2011, during which time she served as Deputy County Attorney-Administration, Assistant County Attorney and Commissioner of Personnel.
