LAURENS, NY – New York State Police have arrested Frank Kovacs, 61, the sitting Mayor of the Village of Laurens in Otsego County, following a grand jury indictment on multiple felony sexual assault charges.

Kovacs faces five serious felony charges:
- Two counts of Rape in the First Degree (Class B felony)
- Three counts of Criminal Sexual Act in the First Degree (Class B felony)
The arrest occurred on June 16, 2025, after an Otsego County grand jury handed down the indictment.
Investigation Timeline
The investigation into Kovacs began in December 2024 when a victim came forward to report historical sexual assault allegations. According to authorities, the victim reported being sexually assaulted by Kovacs over several years more than a decade ago, when the victim was a teenager.
The alleged assaults reportedly occurred:

- Through means of forcible compulsion, intimidation, and coercion
- Over an extended period during the victim’s teenage years
