Tragic House Fire in Goshen Claims Lives of Father and Two Sons
A devastating residential fire in the Town of Goshen, Orange County, New York, has claimed the lives of a father and his two sons. The incident occurred on May 31, 2025, at approximately 8:11 p.m. at 876 Pulaski Highway. Emergency responders from the Town of Goshen Police Department, New York State Police, and numerous fire and EMS agencies across Orange County rushed to the scene following reports of a structure fire with possible entrapment.
Upon arrival, fire personnel found the residence completely engulfed in flames. During rescue operations, 50-year-old Shane Munn was discovered deceased inside the home. Two juvenile males, identified as his sons, ages 12 and 17, were also located inside the residence. Both boys were transported to Garnett Health Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill, where they later succumbed to their injuries.
The incident is under active investigation by the State Police Monroe Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI), with support from the Orange County Fire Investigation Unit and the Hudson Valley Arson and Explosives Task Force. The cause of the fire has not yet been released.
A significant multi-agency response was required to manage the fire and its aftermath. The following agencies provided assistance: Goshen Fire Department, Florida Fire Department, Pine Island Fire Department, Warwick Fire Department, Slate Hill Fire Department, Chester Fire Department, Johnson Fire Department, Unionville Fire Department, Orange County Fire Coordinators, Orange County Department of Emergency Services, Orange County Medical Examiner’s Office, Goshen EMS, Warwick EMS, Wawayanda EMS, and the American Red Cross.
Orange County Sheriff Paul Arteta expressed condolences, stating, “In moments of great loss, we are reminded of the strength of our community and the courage of those who serve. Our first responders put themselves in harm’s way to protect others, and their dedication does not go unnoticed. We stand with the family and the Goshen community during this difficult time”.
The community mourns the loss of Shane Munn and his two sons as investigators continue to determine the cause of this tragic fire.
