Sandy Creek, NY – June 4, 2025 – An early morning fire today destroyed two campers at the Brennan’s Beach RV Resort in the town of Sandy Creek. Despite the intensity of the blaze, which included exploding propane tanks, no injuries were reported.
The fire was first reported at approximately 3:00 a.m. by a seasonal resident of site #1209. The resident told investigators he awoke to find a fire spreading across his campsite, approximately 10 feet from where he and his wife had a small, contained campfire on their deck earlier in the evening. The couple had reportedly gone to bed around 11:00 p.m.
After waking his wife to call 911, the resident and neighbors attempted to fight the rapidly growing flames with a garden hose. However, their efforts were unsuccessful.
The fire completely consumed the resident’s camper and spread to a neighboring unit. Multiple large propane tanks on the second camper subsequently caught fire and exploded, according to officials.
Multiple fire departments from the surrounding area responded to the scene and successfully extinguished the blaze.
The New York State Police and the Office of Fire Prevention and Control have launched a joint investigation. A preliminary report suggests the fire was accidental, with no evidence of foul play or suspicious activity.
Both campers are considered total losses, along with all personal belongings of the initial caller. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
