Donald J. Koenig III Arrested in Saratoga County for Burglary, Grand Larceny, and Criminal Mischief

On June 17, 2025, New York State Police, in collaboration with the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office, arrested 54-year-old Donald J. Koenig III of Ballston Spa, NY, in connection with a string of burglaries at a Milton, NY business. The investigation, which began following reports of a break-in on May 24, 2025, culminated in Koenig’s arrest after evidence linked him to multiple offenses occurring at the same location.

On the morning of May 24, at approximately 7:12 a.m., troopers responded to a report of a burglary at the targeted business. Investigators determined that during this early attempt, Koenig allegedly damaged an office, forcibly entered the premises, and took money from within. The evidence gathered during the initial investigation provided a basis for suspect identification and prompted enhanced surveillance of the property.

Subsequently, on the evening of June 7, 2025, and with follow-up actions on June 9, law enforcement reported that Koenig allegedly returned to the same business. During this second incident, he is accused of once again forcibly entering the office and inflicting additional damage. The repeated nature of the offenses, along with similarities in the modus operandi, quickly linked the cases together.

Authorities have charged Koenig with two counts of Burglary in the Third Degree, one count of Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, one count of Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree, one count of Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree, and two counts of Possession of Burglar Tools. Under New York law, burglary and grand larceny in the third degree are classified as Class D felonies, carrying potential penalties of up to 7 years in prison, while criminal mischief in the third degree is a Class E felony (up to 4 years in prison) and in the fourth degree is a Class A misdemeanor (up to 1 year in jail or probation). Possession of burglar tools, also a Class A misdemeanor, underscores the intent to commit such offenses.

Koenig was transported to SP Saratoga for processing and then arraigned at the Milton Town Court. Following his arraignment, he was remanded to the Saratoga County Correctional Facility pending further proceedings.

This case highlights the commitment of local law enforcement to protecting community businesses from repeat criminal activity and serves as a reminder of the consequences associated with repeated offenses. Authorities continue to encourage community members to report any suspicious activities to aid ongoing investigations.
