Assemblywoman Buttenschon Highlights Funding for Mohawk Valley 2025–26 State Budget
Albany, NY – Assemblywoman Marianne Buttenschon (D–119) announces some funding from the 2025–26 New York State Budget that will directly affect programs in the Mohawk Valley. This funding package reflects Assemblywoman Buttenschon’s commitment to the people and communities of the 119th Assembly District and addresses core needs in education, economic opportunity, public safety, healthcare, and community development.
“I will continue to identify funding opportunities in this budget cycle to support local municipalities, agencies, and organizations that continue to serve our community members.”
Funding Secured in the State Budget to support the district includes:
Community & First Responders
- $200,000 for the Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties to support charitable regional
initiatives;
- $50,000 for the Maynard Fire Department to enhance county-wide training;
- $500,000 for the American Red Cross in New York for Emergency Preparedness Programs to expand
emergency preparedness education and disaster response capacity across the Mohawk Valley;
- $50,000 for the Cornell Cooperative Extension CCE Bridging the Upstate-Downstate Food Network
Divide initiative to strengthen local food systems and increase market access for Mohawk Valley farmers;
- $5,800,000 for Agriculture Tourism statewide to promote our farmers and their agriculture products;
- $750,000 for the New York State Professional Fire Fighters Association statewide (NYSPFFA) to support
firefighter safety, training, and advocacy services;
- $1,912,000 for School-Based Health Centers across the state to improve access to medical and mental
healthcare for students;
- Over $1,00,000 statewide in financial assistance statewide in the form of grants for the small art to include
capital projects and operating expenses;
- $500,000 in capital funding for the Humane Society of Rome in the Agriculture Department;
- $36,380,000 for the Gun Involved Violence Elimination (GIVE) initiative across the state; and
- $1,540,000 in grants for gun violence prevention programs across the state

Business & Economic Development
- An additional $250,000 increase in funding for the MWBE Development and Lending Program, bringing
the program’s total to $1 million, continuing support for entrepreneurs and inclusive economic growth in
the Mohawk Valley; and
- $234,000 for the Path Forward New York State Literacy Action Plan to enhance adult literacy services,
workforce preparation, and ESL (English as a Second Language) programs throughout the state.
Education & Youth
- $450,878,169 in school aid for districts within the 119th Assembly District, funding classroom programs,
staff retention, special education services, and extracurricular activities;
- $2,800,000 for United Way’s Statewide 2-1-1 Program Helpline to maintain essential 24/7 referrals for
crisis intervention, housing, food, and healthcare; and
- $500,000 for the Real Life Rosies Program to support STEM outreach and career exploration.
Higher Education – SUNY Polytechnic Institute
- $7,386,020 in operating funds to sustain academic excellence, student support services, and faculty
recruitment;
- $500,000 to support new faculty hiring and research; and
- $1,063,000 for campus-wide maintenance projects, including classroom upgrades, lab renovations, and
infrastructure improvements.
Veterans & Nonprofits
- $100,000 for the Utica Center for Development to assist with veteran housing, employment, and mental
health programs;
- $350,000 in additional funding for the Military Family Relief Fund;
- Expansion of eligibility for the Gold Star Annuity to include immediate family members; and
- $1,000,000 investment to bolster Veteran suicide prevention efforts across the state.
Workforce Development & Infrastructure
- $117,500,000 in investment for economic development projects, including semiconductor manufacturing
in Oneida County; and
- A $50,000,000 increase in CHIPS (Consolidated Highway Improvement Program) statewide funding to
support resurfacing and repaving roads, repairing bridges, and expanding pedestrian safety infrastructure.
“I advocated tirelessly to make sure the Mohawk Valley wasn’t just represented, but prioritized,”
Buttenschon said. “This budget brings resources home, supports the people who serve our
communities, and invests in the places where our children learn, our veterans live, and our
businesses grow. There is more work to be done and I will continue to secure the necessary
funding for the district.”
