UTICA, NY – In celebration of National Small Business Week, observed statewide in New York from May 4 to May 10, Assemblywoman Marianne Buttenschon (D- 119), Chair of the New York State Assembly Small Business Committee, honored local businesses across the Mohawk Valley by presenting official New York State Assembly Legislative Resolutions recognizing their contributions to the community and local economy.
Throughout the week, Assemblywoman Buttenschon visited a wide variety of small businesses, with a special focus on highlighting the diverse cultural fabric of the region. In Utica, she stopped by several Hispanic-owned businesses including Tito’s Barbershop, Friends Bakery by K&A, Hiandra’s Beauty Salon, Sazón Frank Restaurant, and El Barajo Restaurant. She also honored other Utica staples like Florentine Pastry Shop, O’Scugnizzo Pizzeria, Nguyen Phat Oriental Store, Old School Bar & Grill, and Maria Tucci Hair Design.
Outside of Utica, Buttenschon continued her outreach with visits to WuKong Asian Restaurant in New York Mills, Karam’s Middle East Bakery in Yorkville, and Riverside Diner in Marcy.
“Small businesses are the heart of our communities and the engine of our local economy,” said Assemblywoman Buttenschon. “This week, I encourage everyone to make a conscious effort to shop local each day. Their hard work and resilience are what keep our communities vibrant and moving forward.”
As Chair of the Assembly Small Business Committee, Buttenschon has remained a strong and consistent advocate for policies and resources that uplift small businesses, particularly in underserved and immigrant communities. She encourages business owners in need of assistance, guidance, or those interested in receiving a formal Legislative Resolution to contact her District Office.
“Our small businesses deserve to be celebrated not just during Small Business Week, but every day. My office is here to support you, whether it’s connecting you to state programs or recognizing your hard work with a resolution,” she added.
