Rome, NY (May 12, 2025) – The city of Rome Democratic committee today announced its endorsement of candidates for election to seats on the Rome City Common Council and Onieda County Board of Legislators.
“The Rome Democratic Party is proud to announce the endorsement of several candidates this fall for City Council and County Legislature. This Democratic slate will be a powerful voice in Rome and Oneida County, providing a choice for people in this current political climate of disorganization and instability,” stated Angela Topi, Rome Democratic Committee Chairperson.
Rome City Common Council candidates include:
- Sheri Lagreco-Bryant, Ward 3 – Ms. Lagreco-Bryant envisions a revitalized Rome, NY, where the 3rd Ward thrives through collaborative leadership and community-focused initiatives. Her platform emphasizes enhancing public safety, revitalizing neighborhoods, and fostering economic growth. She advocates for working closely with the city’s administration and fellow councilors to ensure that decisions benefit all residents.
“By supporting new business development and creating better job opportunities, we will build a stronger, more prosperous city for everyone,” stated Lagreco-Bryant.

- Ramona Smith, Ward 4 – Ms. Smith is running for re-election as 4th Ward City Councilor to continue advocating for the people, neighborhoods, education and local businesses that make Rome strong.
“A a lifelong resident, a homeowner, parent, and grandparent, I am pleased to call Rome my home and I am confident about its future. I will continue working to grow our economy, invest in our people, and protect the values that define who we are,” stated Smith.
With over 20 years of experience as a City Councilor, a professional background in business, human resources, and public service, she brings a strong understanding of business development, labor law, policy, and compliance to every decision she makes. She is committed to strengthening the city of Rome for current and future generations.

- Michael Brown, Ward 5 – Brown has lived in the 5th Ward for over 20 years and is one of the owners of Copperccino’s Bistro – which will reopen on North James Street. This project puts Mr. Brown squarely in the seat of helping to revitalize a part of the city’s business community through the renovation of a building that was left derelict for decades. As a business owner he understands the unique challenges and issues facing local establishments. He is both a former Oneida County Legislator (District 12), as well as a high school teacher.
“The recent announcement of Chobani Yogurt locating a new manufacturing facility in Rome with its accompanying 1000 jobs underscores some unique opportunities impacting our local economy such as housing, businesses, and transportation. He stresses that leadership of the council is going to be a key factor in how Rome can maximize the mix of new people, new money, and new jobs to the benefit of our community,” stated Brown.

Candidates for Oneida County Legislator include:
- Rich Duesler, District 7 – Duesler is a dedicated union electrician with 25 years of experience in the industry. A graduate of Rome Free Academy, he furthered his education with two years at Mohawk Valley Community College. As a proud father of three children aged 21, 19, and 18, Rich understands the importance of supporting families and creating opportunities for future generations. Rich’s commitment to service and community empowerment drives his campaign as he seeks to make a meaningful difference in District 7.
“As a representative of Oneida County, I will act as a strong advocate for union work. It is my belief that good union wages not only benefit workers but also help raise non-union wages, positively impacting the entire community,” stated Duesler.

- Stephen Hampe, District 12 – A former president of the Rome City School District Board of Education, Dr. Hampe is excited to be running to represent District 12 in the Oneida County Legislature and eager to continue his efforts to improve the transparency of and citizen engagement in local government.
“As a society we are facing significant challenges locally, regionally, and nationally. As a legislator, it will be my goal to ensure that all voices are heard as we work together to solve problems and improve the lives of the citizens of Oneida County.”
