A “Bias Monitor” ?????
Last week, the FCC Chairman Brendan Carr announced that a bias monitor will be put in place as part of the “deal” made with CBS/Paramount/Skydance. The monitor will report directly to President Trump. Walter Cronkite is rolling over in his grave.
Some of you will remember several of my previous Letters to the Editor regarding Project 2025. Part of Project 2025 calls for the President to take complete control of some agencies, like the FCC, and then to make or remake all the “rules”.
By now you have heard that PBS & NPR have been stripped of government funding. Trump thinks they are too liberal. The Department of Education is being eliminated.
Will history textbooks be rewritten next? Anything that doesn’t flatter Dear Leader must be purged? Does a bias monitor really mean a fact monitor? Can anybody say Censorship?
I am not sure how a bias monitor will work, but I am afraid to find out. If you permit a “bias monitor”, then you can no longer call yourself a news organization.
With regret, I will no longer watch “60 Minutes”. A boycott of its advertisers is also in order. At least “South Park” didn’t get the memo.
