Letter to the Editor: Prices Rise, Promises Broken: America Pays the Price- Regina S Kekis

Have you heard the latest?

Depending on where you get your news — or if you tune in at all — you might not realize things in the good old USA aren’t going so well.
Candidate Trump promised to lower prices for everyday Americans. President Trump isn’t delivering. Prices are up on beef, coffee, chocolate, eggs, utilities — you name it. Grocery bills have nearly doubled. Meanwhile, millions are losing food assistance as cuts to SNAP loom.
Remember this campaign promise? “I’ll never touch Medicaid,” he said. He promised not to touch grandma’s nursing care. Yet the “big bill” he just signed does exactly that — stripping healthcare from 14 million Americans, including countless grandparents. That’s not just ugly — it’s cruel.
And where’s the money going? Supposedly to “better use.” I don’t consider the refurbishment of Air Force One — reportedly gifted to Trump by Qatar — at a cost of up to $934 million (per The New York Times) a “better use.” Nearly a billion dollars on a plane — that he plans to keep for his personal use.
It’s time we start paying attention and make our voices heard. It’s our money they’re using to enrich themselves — and we’re paying the price.
If our representative ever held a local town hall, we could tell her how we feel. Until then, call, write letters, and show up at rallies.
