Rep. Mannion Issues Statement on Trump-Republican Budget Proposal

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Representative John W. Mannion (NY-22) today released the following statement after voting no on the Trump-Republican budget bill:
“Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans have made it the official policy of the United States government to carry out one of the largest transfers of wealth in American history – from working families, seniors, and children to billionaires and the powerful.
The Trump–Republican budget now heading to the president’s desk is reckless, dishonest, and devastating. Every independent, nonpartisan analysis reaches the same conclusion: this bill adds trillions to the deficit, strips millions of Americans of their health care, and guts the programs that serve the most vulnerable, all to pay for tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy.
In NY-22 nearly 250,000 people rely on Medicaid, including more than 90,000 children, seniors, and people with disabilities. Another 127,000 rely on SNAP for food assistance, including working parents, veterans, and low-income families. This bill threatens hospitals, raises premiums, increases wait times, eliminates food assistance, and puts our entire social safety net at risk. It puts billionaires before nurses, seniors, and children.
The loss of $30 million promised for neighborhood transformation as part of the I-81 project is a direct betrayal of Syracuse and our region. I’ll keep fighting to restore this funding and ensure the I-81 project benefits all neighborhoods, especially those that have been overlooked for too long.
The American people didn’t vote for this. They didn’t vote to raise health care costs, defund the future, or bury the next generation in debt. I voted no because New Yorkers deserve better. And I’ll keep working to deliver government policies that reflect our values, protect the vulnerable, and invest in a stronger, more honest future for all of us.”
