RUSSIA, NY — A deadly structure fire on Rose Valley Road in the town of Russia has claimed one life, prompting an ongoing investigation by state and local authorities.
At approximately 7:45 a.m. on June 30, 2025, New York State Police and the Poland Fire Department responded to reports of a structure fire at a residence in Herkimer County. Upon arrival, emergency responders encountered a two-story home completely engulfed in flames.
Firefighters immediately began suppression efforts to bring the blaze under control. During the overhaul phase of the operation, crews discovered human remains inside the destroyed residence.
The identity of the deceased victim is being withheld pending forensic confirmation and notification of next of kin, according to state police officials.
