New York State Police Issue Over 12,000 Tickets During 2025 Memorial Day Weekend Enforcement

The New York State Police announced today that troopers issued a total of 12,062 tickets statewide during the 2025 Memorial Day Weekend enforcement campaign, which ran from Friday, May 23 through Monday, May 26. The annual campaign, partially funded by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee, aimed to keep New York’s roads safe during one of the busiest travel weekends of the year.

Throughout the four-day period, State Police utilized sobriety checkpoints, increased DWI patrols, and targeted distracted drivers using handheld electronic devices. Troopers also focused on speeding and aggressive driving, as well as enforcing seatbelt and Move Over laws.

Key Results from the 2025 Campaign:

  • Total tickets issued: 12,062
  • DWI arrests: 245
  • Crashes investigated: 774 (including 3 fatal crashes)
  • Speeding tickets: 3,472
  • Distracted driving tickets: 393
  • Seatbelt violations: 1,660
  • Move Over Law violations: 225

Compared to last year’s campaign (May 24–27, 2024), which resulted in 10,949 tickets and 225 DWI arrests, this year saw an increase in both enforcement activity and DWI arrests.

Regional Breakdown by Troop:

  • Troop T (NYS Thruway): 2,128 tickets, 44 DWI arrests, 700 speeding tickets, 106 distracted driving tickets, 408 seatbelt/child restraint violations, 53 Move Over violations.
  • Troop F (Western Hudson Valley): 1,253 tickets, 41 DWI arrests.
  • Troop K (Eastern Hudson Valley): 1,233 tickets, 34 DWI arrests.
  • Troop E (Finger Lakes): 1,175 tickets, 24 DWI arrests.
  • Troop B (North Country): 1,144 tickets, 10 DWI arrests.
  • Troop G (Capital Region): 1,078 tickets, 23 DWI arrests.
  • Troop D (Central NY): 996 tickets, 17 DWI arrests.
  • Troop C (Southern Tier): 936 tickets, 15 DWI arrests.
  • Troop A (Western NY): 1,032 tickets, 12 DWI arrests.
  • Troop L (Long Island): 587 tickets, 24 DWI arrests.
  • NYC: 500 tickets, 1 DWI arrest.

The New York State Police remind all motorists to drive responsibly, avoid distractions, and always wear seatbelts. These enforcement efforts are part of an ongoing commitment to reduce crashes and save lives on New York’s roadways.
